Fan Walk tradition continues as Mandela Day is celebrated in Cape Town Central City

Ubuntu5

Citizens spontaneously reactivated the 2010 Fan Walk yesterday to say no to xenophobia and happy birthday to Nelson Mandela. Bravo to Charly’s Bakery for taking the lead, and to everyone who took part.

The Ubuntu Festival in Upper St George’s Mall was also a great success. The Festival, which focuses on acknowledging our common humanity, helped to bring thousands of Capetonians back to town on the weekend.

Capetonians took to the Fan Walk again, this time to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 92nd birthday, and to say no to xenophabia

The walk started outside St George's Cathedral at the top of St George's Mall. The Mall is the Central City's traditional north-south pedestrian axis, which intersects with the Fan Walk at Waterkant Street
